Review: It’s the horrible curse of reaching 40 and you start saying, they just don’t make things like they used to. I have a wonderful heavy duty metal garlic press that I’ve had for 20 years. If I could just replace it I would be ecstatic, but of course they don’t make them like that anymore. New ones are flimsy & lightweight. From the amazing reviews I really thought that this was going to be the answer. It works fine & looks very Swedish. The problem is the hinges don’t have any resistance so it falls open. It’s just silly, it should stay closed, not fall open. The other feature is the little metal foot that needs to go on top of the garlic, this is a ridiculous design and limits how large a clove that can be pressed. Definitely seems like it was made by an American, ha ha. I wouldn’t buy this again. The price is fantastic, but sometimes you get what you pay for.

Review: I’ve owned this press for over one year and among the three presses that I own, this is by far my favorite. The removable basket allows for using an unpeeled clove. Simply squeeze, scrape off the garlic and remove the clove paper.
The product is well made and at $5.99, it’s a bargain. Thanks, IKEA!

Review title: Terrible construction combined with useless feature

Review: Very disappointed with this press, it has started falling apart after around a year of use, the handle sleeves both fall off regularly and the stainless steel began tarnishing/oxidizing after a few months.

The removable basket is downright stupid, it's hard to remove (although looks like a tab has been added in a redesign?) and it barely helps with cleanup compared to a normal basket as it still has high walls making it hard to access. Along with this, I find the body generally gets garlic gunk on it anyway, so I have to wash both parts. The basket is also fairly light, so it often gets lost in some crevice of dishwashers, so I resort to hand washing.

The only redeeming quality of this press is that it's made me much better at mincing garlic due to the inconvenience of pressing garlic.
