A mattress protector between your sheet and mattress protects from stains and dirt and prolongs the life of your mattress.
The elastic edging all around makes sure the mattress protector stays in place and also protects the sides of your mattress.
The mattress protector is machine-washable at 140°F (Hot), a temperature that kills dust mites.

This product is flammability tested and complies with standard EN ISO 12952-1.
This product is flammability tested in accordance to standard CAN/CGSB 4.2 No 27.5 and meets the requirement of flame spread time ≥7.1 sec.
To protect the inner waterproof layer, treat with care and avoid washing with items like zippers or buttons that may penetrate or damage the material.

Review: My cat demonstrated why I needed a waterproof mattress cover. I was reluctant to do so from a very bad experience with a waterproof cover that cost $150 or so, because it was slippery, noisy, and sheets couldn't grip tightly. This IKEA cover, though, is silent and a soft fabric surface on the top holds the sheet in place. Plus it fits easily in my small laundry center's washer and dryer. Would give one additional star if the surface was a bit more padded. Yet after a week, I do not notice that as a shortcoming. So I do recommend this cover completely if you're seeking a waterproof, or water resistant, mattress pad.

Review: It says waterproof but I think it's for smaller leaks. My 8-month husky puppy decided to use my bed as a potty pad. I had the duvet cover, duvet and the mattress protector on. A majority of the pee soaked into the duvet, and the duvet cover but a small portion of pee made it into my IKEA mattress even with the mattress protector. I don't see how this is waterproof, besides that they feel great, and it doesn't sound noisy like some other protectors.

Review: Fits snugly and STAYS THERE. I also appreciate that it isn't just noisy plastic - the upper side of the protector has a terry cloth feeling to it and the underside is waterproof so it doesn't feel weird under the fitted sheet.
