Review: I've had two of these in the past. My plants have always thrived in these pots. However, with one of pots the cheap quality styrofoam came off the plastic riser. I thought maybe it was defective. I just bought 3 of these for some new plants. With two of them, despite treating the styrofoam VERY gently, it still came off the plastic riser. With the other pot, the riser got stuck and would not rise. I was afraid to pull on it out of fear the styrofoam would come off too. I do like the plastic material, it's sturdy and the wheels are very convenient. IKEA - please use better materials and replace the cheap styrofoam with something else! I would also like a pot with straight sides, not tapered, for a more modern look.

Review: This item is NOT worth $30 - $40!
1) The floating indicator was often stuck in the tube.
2) In order for the plant to actually use the water at the base of the pot, the plant's roots would have to grow in that direction, which they do not do! So, you'll end up with stale water at the base of your pot, which can trap fungus and destroy your plant.

Review: I transplanted a spider plant (outside) and dracena marginata (inside) which haven't grown much bigger over the years. After planting them in the Ikea pots, they are both huge and thriving. I bought two more pots. Also you never risk overwatering because of the gauge.

Review: I planted my Sakura tomato in this and it's great! I'm also able to fit the tomato cage perfectly in it. I'm able to wheel the planter on my patio if I need more shade or if I need the plant to get more sun. The off-white keeps the soil relatively cool. And the self-watering works. Such a simple mechanism, but it works well.

I really hope IKEA will make this self watering planter in different sizes and shapes. I have been looking for a large rectangular self watering planter much like this one but there aren't any available.
