Gives about 2 in opening to let the air flow. Easy for humans to bypass. We have been using these for years!

Review: This door stop was a very pleasant find - I happened to be desperately looking for one when I found this one by chance at the Ikea store here in Columbus. It stays in place extremely well, holds the door securely, and is very easy to operate (open the door until it clicks in; step on it to release the door.) Overall, it's an excellent design. Note: If you're concerned about the color, I doubt painting it would be a workable solution; the door would scratch the paint right off I'd expect. YMMV
