Review: We've bought nine (9) of these detolf's over the past twenty years. Most recently, I purchased five to finish off an art room installation in our home.
First off: These are challenging to assemble, and quite impossible for someone to do without a helper. The panels are marked, etc., but certain steps in assembling the side and rear panels--getting them properly seated and secured with their plastic sleeves, requires quite a bit of patience.
The Good (Great) - once they're put together properly, they'll last for years. Our oldest on is over twenty (20) years of age, and still going strong.
I've installed lighting system in the top, and placed black panels outside the cabinet in the rear. This helps the illumination display art objects against a black background, making each object stand out.
For the money they are a superb value. I've scanned the internet, and one can find the same piece at prices ranging up the three times what IKEA charges.
So, be prepared to take some time.

Review title: Another instance of glass door shattering spontaneously

Review: Purchased two of these Detolf cabinets in June 2018. Heard a loud bang in the middle of the night last week - found the door shattered to a million pieces on the floor. Quickly found that many others have experienced the same issue with this item. Until this happened, I thought this was an excellent item. Now concerned about what to do with the other one, whether I should remove the door before it shatters. Hopefully this has been fixed in the product that is currently being sold - if not, would definitely not recommend.

Review title: Very Frustrating Product to Assemble

Review: It has taken two hours just to get the three glass sides into place and connected.

The plastic connectors are very frustrating to work with. You'll keep thinking you got the glass in place and then try to put on the top and then the top isn't flat which means your glass isn't flat on the bottom because the plastic connectors didn't let the glass panels go all the way down. So you have to take the glass out of the plastic connectors and start all over again. Takes a lot of force to get things aligned, definitely too much force for glass.

The most aggravating part are the stickers. They put stickers on the glass that don't peel off. So you are left with a bunch of paper and residue all over the class panels that you have to clean off after assembly. So even after assembly you need to go buy rubbing alcohol because IKEA felt the need to put labels the glass.

Review: We loved this display case and it was beautiful for about two years and then the back panel just exploded into tiny pieces. No one was even in the room when it happened and the fixtures inside haven’t been touched in a long time. As I came to write this review I’ve noticed that many people who have had the cabinet for a few years experienced the same thing. The rest of the cabinet is still completely intact, just the back panel has crumbled.

Review: We are so disappointed with this product, especially since everything else we have purchased from IKEA we love. First the metal threads for the frame were painted, so it’s nearly impossible to get the base and top to screw on securely. Then putting the glass panels in the slots then in plastic connector strip took multiple attempts, more force than safe for glass panels, and perfect alignment, which isn’t marked. Last, the packaging of the actually product was very poor, which led to 2 broken shelves before we could even get them out of the box. 0/10 recommend.

Review title: Exploded- Glass Everywhere

Review: We bought this item about 3-4 years ago to use to display picture frames and it was about 4 am when we got woken up by a loud boom. We got so scared thinking someone broke into the house. When we went out to see around the house we saw tiny broken pieces of glass everywhere. The door panel seemed to have exploded or something. The weirdest part of it all was that the door was closed and the magnetic hinges were still intact. As I came to write my review I noticed this is something people have experienced before as well. Not sure now if I can trust this item again and for the price we paid this should not be happening. Very disappointed. As someone else said not sure if it was just a bad batch that was manufactured or just simply in general horribly manufactured.

Review: I have wanted these forever and they are hardly in stock at my store. I’ve finally been able to purchase them and they have raised the price $40 more for the exact same product. It was not worth buying even with the raised price because of how difficult it was to assemble. I had two people helping and the glass walls would not go in to the plastic corners at all. I heard it would break from trying to squeeze them in there. It was nearly impossible to assemble. And it’s wobbly because we could not get the wallls to fully go in the plastic. Really disappointed this product didn’t work as I have been looking forward to it.

Review: I’ve previously bought 4 of these at $80 a piece. Since the last time I bought one (about 2/3 months ago) it’s went up $20. Like another reviewer stated, the quality of the shelves have diminished. The first 3 I bought had thicker, more durable shelves and the last one I bought were noticeably thinner. It’s one thing to pay $80 for some lower quality shelves, but to now pay $100 for what seems like a knockoff of the real deal is ridiculous. Pretty sad that this is their most popular item and they cheap out on quality and jack up the price at the same time. Disappointed IKEA..
